How the free AI Visibility Check works

We'd rather show our work than ask you to trust a score. Here's exactly what the check does, and what it can't tell you.

What we ask.

The same 8 questions for every business in a trade and city, written the way homeowners ask. Here they are for every trade we check:

Other home services

Who we ask.

ChatGPT (through OpenAI's API), Perplexity (through its Sonar API), and Claude (through Anthropic's API), each with web search turned on so answers reflect what's online now. We record the model used for every answer. Answers from the API can differ from what you see in each company's app, which can also use your location, history, and settings.

How many times.

The instant check asks each assistant each question once (24 answers). The full emailed report asks each question twice (48 answers). Paying clients get 15 or 30 questions, three runs each, every month.

How we count a mention.

A question counts as "named" when at least one assistant's answer clearly names your business or links your website. We ignore capitalization, punctuation, "&" versus "and", and endings like LLC or Inc. A similar but different name (say, a different company with one word in common) is marked "possible" and never counted until a person checks it.

Why results vary.

AI assistants don't give the same answer every time, and they change as they update. That's why we repeat questions, date every result, and report trends, not single answers.

Shared answers.

The answers to "best plumber in Mesa, AZ" don't depend on who's asking, so if someone checked the same trade and city in the last 24 hours, we reuse those answers and say so on your result. Your full report always includes a fresh run.

What we don't measure.

Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and voice assistants. Google doesn't offer an API we can use for this under its terms, so we never estimate or score it. We still work on the Google signals you control.

What we do with your information.

We use your business name, city, trade, and website to run the check, and your email to send the report and a few short follow-ups you can unsubscribe from. We don't sell or share it.
